Access and privacy
Understand privacy and participant data
Know what Ed.ie collects, who can see it, and how to handle classroom data.

What participants provide
Depending on the activity, Ed.ie can collect short written responses, drawings, group questions, GIF selections, one private image, poll answers, and an optional display name. The participant form does not ask for a student ID, email address, or account.
Participants should avoid including student IDs or sensitive identifying information about themselves or other people.
Who can see responses
Authenticated teaching staff with access to the hosted space can see responses and group questions. Participants in the same session can see and vote for group questions that are visible. Hosts may discuss or project selected work in class.
Screening and hiding help control the classroom display, but hosts should still review content before projecting it.
How images and GIFs differ
When private image uploads are enabled, an image is converted in the participant’s browser to remove metadata before upload. It is stored privately and made available to authenticated teaching staff rather than other participants.
GIF searches are sent from the browser to GIPHY, and selected GIFs load from GIPHY’s media service. Do not use identifying information in GIF search terms.
Export, retention, and deletion
CSV exports may contain visible, hidden, and archived work. Store exports in an approved location and remove data when it is no longer required for teaching review.
Archiving clears the live room but retains the activity; it is not deletion. A class or institution should set an appropriate retention period.
Use for teaching
Ed.ie responses are intended for formative teaching feedback and class discussion. Do not reuse them for research, publication, or formal assessment without the relevant approval, consent, and ethics processes.
